Tips for Game Creation
First Timers
Everyone enjoys playing card and board games. Some enjoy gameplay so much, they get the desire to create their own games. The process of creating a game can be more in-depth than most people initially anticipate. Luckily, we know a few experts and can give you tips to help guide you.
1.Play test!
A great way to measure the potential success of your game is to share it with others. Ask family members and friends to play your game. Get as many people as you can to play it. Listen for any feedback they offer, questions they have, pain points they have.
This will help you find some constructive criticism that will help you improve the game’s development. When you hear the telltale phrase “let’s play again,” you’ll know you’re ready to take the next step. An added benefit of this process is that you’ll have a bunch of support for your game when it’s released!
2. Create clear rules and instructions.
By the time you’re ready to share your game with others, you’ve probably played it a million times. You know the rules backwards and forwards, you could recite them in your sleep. We don’t need you to tell them to us through snores, but you do want to be able to share them. Draft your rules as completely as possible – don’t leave out any small details. What feels obvious to you, may not feel obvious to a first-time player. When you share the game with others, keep an ear out for the questions they ask – every question should be answered in the rules and instructions.
3. Partner with Experts
The best way to set yourself up for success with your first game is to partner with a company that’s been there and done that. They can help you avoid common mistakes, and share some cost efficient options you may not have known about. Working with experts ensures you won’t face surprises because they know this process through and through.
