COVID-19 Response Case Study: Medical Device Manufacturer

Throughout the COVID-19 epidemic, it has been EPI’s honor to focus its talent and resources on programs that support our valued partner-clients whose work is essential to infrastructure or sustaining life.

One such client is a major manufacturer of medical devices including hospital beds. As hospitals across the country have filled to capacity and the need for field hospitals has developed, the demand for hospital beds has increased dramatically. To quickly aid healthcare providers during the growing pandemic, our client ramped up production of an entirely new emergency bed designed to help emergency responders and caregivers move and position patients efficiently, aiming to produce 10,000 units each week.

EPI typically supports their business through the printing and fulfillment of manuals, instruction sheets and sales sheets. These products accompany each bed that is made. This dramatic scale up of bed production during the COVID-19 epidemic and subsequent state government shut downs required EPI to increase our own production with the same urgency. EPI increased productivity by 90% compared to the prior year, working additional shifts and weekends to produce thousands of additional manuals while maintaining a safe workplace for our employees and compliance with all local government shut-down restrictions.

On top of this additional work, we maintained production for their other products which also experienced a significant increase in demand. We’re thrilled that our clients can confidently rely on us to meet timelines with quality products even when it requires a very quick turnaround.
